To measure cadence strap your phone on a thigh with a sports armband holster.
When the pedal is in its lower position, the phone on your thigh will be located in its low point of "rest". When the same pedal reaches the highest point, your legs make half the rotation in the crankshaft. The phone's accelerometer detects low and high points of "rest" and calculates cadence in rotations per minute (rpm). Click on this video for a demo. |
This phone holster was tested by VeloComputerTM team. Please, check the dimensions of your phone before buying this product. |

Some armband holsters, manufactured for one phone model, fit perfectly for another. Like in these picture the armband holster for iPod fits Sony-Ericsson, BlackBerry Storm, HTC Magic and myTouch phones. |
This band can be used as a leg extension for an armband. Check the dimensions of your armband before buying. You can also find similar reflective bands at your local bicycle store and try it out with your armband. |

Alternatively, you can put your phone in a side pocket and listen to your speed and cadence via headphones. Like in this picture, the HTC Magic or myTouch is placed in a side pocket of cycling shorts. Many cycling shorts have built in phone pockets, others can use a regular pocket. Just change the accelerometer axis from default Z to X or Y (depending on your model) to correctly measure your cadence.
Remember, with VeloTones® you don't need to look at the display to know your speed and cadence. |
